Life is recognizing patterns and naming them. Once we have the objects named, we start making memories through stories, adding emotions and opinions to everything we experience. The result is an identity that we carry with us and reinforce every moment. We start to believe that we are the identity.

Life is both the repetition of events and the compilation of memories, but life is ultimately - the moment - with no past and no future. It is when we momentarily experience the whole consciousness of all things that we see ourselves, not as separate lives, but a continuous consciousness.

337 Project

Radio-Iodine Closet: Viewing the installation through the door, you will see milk samples representing those gathered in rural areas in the early 60’s by the Atomic Energy Commission. They were sampling rural area cows milk for radioactive iodine to determine how much was safe for human consumption. The answer turned out to be zero.

In the 337 Project House, you encountered this door at the end of a hallway, you also heard the clicking of a geiger counter, a device that detects the presence of radioactive material. You have to look into the window to see the installation of radioactive milk samples.

Radioiodine Closet

Radioiodine Closet portrays milk samples collected in the 1950's in rural parts of the United States to monitor how much radioactive iodine from the atmospheric nuclear testing was getting into the local cows milk. The Atomic Energy Commission wanted to determine how much radioactive iodine the human body could tolerate. It was a large scale experiment on public citizens.

I painted the Jihadi Woman in the 25' hight stairwell of the 337 Project.

The 2007 Mogadishu, Somali conflict was occurring as we were working.

337 Project, Salt Lake City, Utah 2007. Over 150 artists modified a building scheduled for demolition by painting, sculpting, installing and restructuring. I completed three projects for 337.

Water Music: Visualizing Frequency

Bells are suspended from 25' at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. This bell touches the pool of water. As the bell is struck the sound vibration travels into the water causing it to ripple and boil.

The two bells have microphones connected to them. As the vibration goes into a reverberation machine the sound creates experimental music.

Water Music was a part of Water Week in 2011.

The writing on the bells in in Hangul, Korean lettering. One bell says Everybody Loves Water, the other says Water Loves Everybody. This installation is based on the turn of the century science of Cymatics — the science of visualizing frequency

Pathos of Plants

PATHOS: The emotion of Plants, August 6

While viewing this installation of plants please emote good and evil thoughts and intentions toward the plants labeled the same. The work is meant to be a four-month observation of the effects of labeling and observing the tangible effects upon the living plants.
