How Thinking Like the First People Can Save the World!
Ju!!hoansi Wisdom Academy
San Bushmen are still nomadic, historically moving with water, game and the seasons. They temporarily reside at the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, Central Kalahari Game Reserve. They call themselves the Ju!!hoansi (!! pronounced as a click). They are renowned for their deep ecological knowledge, advanced tracking skills, social egalitarianism and healing through ceremonial trance dance, in which healers enter an altered state to draw sickness out of individuals and the community. They play for the sheer pleasure of it; music, storytelling and teaching games run through daily life. They often imitate leaping antelopes, shy hyenas, noisy birds; even though by law they can no longer hunt, they keep the ancient knowledge through oral transmission. They are thought to have originated between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago in Cape Town. They migrated north into South Africa, Namibia, and Botswana. The San Bushmen are, in the fullest sense, the First People on the earth.
